Dominating the District are the Sueve mountains, the most beautiful of the coastal mountains of Asturias and the last redoubt of the legendary Asturcon horses which live in semi-freedom.
Close to the coastline, the Picu Pienzu, at 1,159m. above sea level the highest of the peaks, affords a privileged vantage-point over the Cantabrian Sea and the Peaks of Europe. Its coasts shelter beautiful beaches still in their seminatural state.
